Hi,
After installing some Windows updates on my Windows Server 2008 I am unable to connect to the SQL data which is hosted on this machine.
Error message:
The database is unavailable.
A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Etc...
Everything was working fine up until the Windows updates.
Any suggestions?
Mauricio

The first question would be, are the SQL Server services running? To verify this simply open SQL Server Configuration Manager. If they are stopped then start them and try again.

Yes, it is running. I think maybe the firewall exception was deleted when the Windows updates were installed. Correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't UDP 1434 need to be open?

Checkmate uses TCP ports 80 and 443.
Just to verify can you open up SQL Management Studio and connect to the database engine?
Also another question are you getting this error when trying to access it from the server or from another computer in the network?

Yes, I am able to connect to the db via SQL Mgt Studio.
I am able to connect to the db via Checkmate when I am physically on the server. I am UNABLE to connect from a computer on the network.
I thought TCP 80 / 443 only needed to be open if running as a web server (?).

Checkmate uses 80 and 443 to communicate.
If you feel it could be a firewall issue then I would suggest turning off the firewall for a quick test and see if you can connect with it off. If you can then you would need to find out what the firewall is blocking.

With UDP 1434 open I am able to connect.
With ports 80 and 443 open I am not able to connect.
