We have recently installed over 300 Geotab units in our fleet units. Some are live and r.f. units combined. We have another 800 units to install. There are complaints of dead batteries in each of our divisions. I have looked into the installation proceedure and verified that they have been installed correctly. We are verifying that these are just not coincidence. Allthough the installation was performed by various installers, the problem seems to be common throughout our fleet. We have a wide range of climate between our office locations, again the problem seems to not discriminate between locations,(I.E. hot or cold climate), My question is, has anyone else had these problems? If so, I would like to hear. Thank you ....... Larry

Hello,

We have not encountered this issue before. Please review the following forum post regarding current draw on GO4v2 unitshttp://geotab.com/Support/GeotabFor...fault.aspx

We would like to work with your mechanic to understand the issue better. All GO3 and GO4 units provide an hourly voltage reading. As a first step, we would like to review the data for the specific vehicles in question to understand when the voltage drop occurs. Please visit the http://geotab.com/LinkClick.aspx?li...5&tabid=36">contacts page on www.geotab.com and submit your contact details. Please include the company which the system was purchased from so that we can include your dealer in the troubleshooting process.

We are new to Geotab and have installed about 30+ units so far this month. We also have experienced a coincidental number of dead batteries so far. I have 5 reports of dead batteries, 3 of which needed battery replacement.

Just coincidental or could there be something here?

Hi Sean,

As mentioned previously there are no known issues with flattening batteries.
The Go4 device does draw current while the vehicle is off, you can see how much here.
Also, if you have a fully charged battery the vehicle would have to remain off for a couple of months before our unit would drain it.

Sean, did you ever have any more dead batteries? Did the issue resolve itself?

We have noticed the same issue with Grand Caravan 2010 and 2011. The batteries are dead in days when the vehicles are not in use. The installs are harnessed with no AUX/PTO connected. The vehicles and batteries are new.

Marc,

Are they GO4 or GO5? What firmware version?

Can you get someone to measure the current draw from the GO device while ignition is off? Make sure it's not during a time when the device is sending a heartbeat.

If you can bring specific cases to our attention, we can investigate them individually and see if, for example, the device is sending too many heartbeat, or if the modem keeps retrying to connect and stays on longer than it should, etc...

Same issues within our fleet. Most complaints are with G05 devices. Any advice?

Hello,

The following forum post has been updated to include the current draw for GO5 devices
http://geotab.com/Support/GeotabFor...fault.aspx

We would need to investigate a specific example of the issue in order to troubleshoot the cause of the battery drains. Please visit our Contacts page to submit specific details (Geotab serial number, dates/times) on the case and a support engineer will follow up on this case.
