Hello -
Our database is hosted by geotab. We were told we could use the Checkmate SDK to pull data from our database down. How do I create a connection to our hosted database and create queries against it or run reports on it?
Thanks

Hi there,

The best place to start would be to download the SDK. Available here: http://www.geotab.com/Support/Geota...fault.aspx
Included are examples and documentation that will show you how to get started using the Checkmate API.

Thanks,

Steve

If i try to establish a connection to that SQL Database instance using Visual Web Developer I get this errror: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verfy that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Also when I try and modify the sample programs with my login information to my database it is not connecting. Please provide some direction. Thanks

Resolution:

You may be missing the correct arguments when launching the application. You will need to enter you server, db name, username, password in the command line arguments of the project. IE. Right click the project, select properties, enter the information in the command line arguments text area.

Also, the question was raised: "Is there a way to extract the database down to our computer so that we could look at a few fields in it? "

Generally, no. Included in the SDK is a database schema and CheckmateSdk.chm file which has the API documentation.
The intended use of the SDK is not to make SQL queries directly against the database but to use the provided API to make calls to the remote database and manipulate the data as returned. By using the examples as a jumping off point you should be able to see how to connect to and make calls against your database and expand from there.
