The IRIDIUM Network is useful in the event the Geotab® GO Device travels outside of cellular or network coverage. The IRIDIUM Satellite modem allows the GO device to communicate over the IRIDIUM Network. This allows users to track their fleet even when cellular connectivity is lost.

Man-Down Add-On

An alert button can be wired into the IRIDIUM Satellite IOX®. When triggered, it sends a top priority “emergency” message through the satellite network to the MyGeotab user.

Installation Instructions

NOTE: Professional Installation Required  Installation of the IOX-SATIRDv2 requires the installer have sufficient technical knowledge and expertise for mobile device installation and integration into modern vehicles. i.e. Certified Geotab® Installer certification or equivalent.

WARNING! Prior to IOX-SATIRDv2 installation, read and follow GO device installation instructions (goo.gl/rkLRiA) to verify any existing GO device installation is correct in preparation for IOX-SATIRDv2 installation. Incorrect installation of either the GO device, and/or IOX-SATIRDv2 can result in loss of vehicle control and serious injury.

WARNING! Prior to IOX-SATIRDv2 installation, read and follow important safety information including limitations of use located following these installation instructions. Always read and follow all safety information to prevent loss of vehicle control and serious injury.

Mandatory Activation Required

It is mandatory that the IRIDIUM Satellite Modem be activated 24 hours prior to installation. To request activation you must create a support ticket with the subject line: IOX-SATIRDv2 activation request. You must also include the GO Device serial number and IRIDIUM IMEI number in the ticket.

Start with the Geotab GO device unplugged from the vehicle. Remove the IOX expansion port cover on your GO device.

Plug in the 90° USB connector of the IOX to the GO device. Secure the USB connector using a zip tie. Avoid overtightening as it can damage the USB connector.

NOTE: The USB connector can only be inserted in one orientation (see image).

Choose an appropriate mounting location for the satellite modem. Keep in mind that the location you have chosen for the GO device will influence the locations available to mount the IRIDIUM Modem due to the length of wiring on the IOX-SATIRDv2. The installation must not interfere with safe vehicle operation.

The IRIDIUM satellite antenna has a magnet mount, as well as a ring of two-sided tape on the bottom of the antenna to cater to mounting on plastic. The antenna location cannot interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle or obstruct the driver’s field of vision outside the vehicle in any way.

The antenna can be mounted below a dashboard provided there are no metallic objects or other obstructions directly above it that could interfere with satellite reception. It is highly recommended to mount the antenna out of sight and secured with at least one zip tie.

The antenna and IOX-SATIRDv2 cable are both connected to the satellite modem at the same end as the status LEDs. The LEDs indicate Power (RED) and Connection Status (GREEN).

Once your connections to the IOX-SATIRDv2 wiring have been made, connect the GO device and immediately start the vehicle. Your GO device will enter debug mode.

IOX-SATIRDv2 has a two wire pigtail made up of a BLUE wire and a BLACK wire; these are the external trigger wires for the IRIDIUM panic feature. These wires can be connected to a momentary contact switch. When this feature is triggered, the device will start a beeping sequence. The beeping will stop once the message has been received by MyGeotab. A rule can be created in MyGeotab by adding an Engine Rule for Alert button depressed.

Please verify that the device is communicating correctly. Using a PC or smart phone, navigate to installmygps.com.

Fill in your name, company, and the Geotab GO device serial number (found at the bottom of the device) and click on Log Install.

You will now see a screen that displays the current status of the device. If the device is communicating correctly, you will see GREEN lettering with the last valid GPS record. If the text appears in RED, the device is unable to communicate and you must verify the installation.

You may notice your IOX comes with a termination shunt installed in the expansion port. If you are installing more than one IOX in a daisy chain you will need to remove the shunt from each device in line, with the exception of the last IOX connected. That shunt must remain in the last IOX and should be secured with a zip tie.

The use of the shunt in the last IOX is necessary for the GO device to detect and configure the IOX as effectively as possible.

NOTE: Failing to install the shunt in the last IOX could affect IOX communication. It is recommended that you secure the shunt using a zip tie if not already done.

You must inspect devices and cabling on a regular basis to ensure all devices and cabling continue to be securely attached.
