TOKYO, Japan – October 20, 2026 – Geotab, a global leader in connected transportations, video telematics and AI-powered insights, today announced its expansion into Japan. Geotab will bring its all-in-one video telematics platform designed to help businesses prevent driving risk, support drivers and improve fleet operations.
Geotab enters Japan as businesses face growing pressure to move goods safely and reliably amid structural labor shortages and tighter working-hour regulations. Since April 2024, an annual overtime limit of 960 hours has applied to truck drivers in Japan. Without further measures to improve logistics efficiency, Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) projected in 2022 that the country could face a transport capacity shortfall of approximately 34% by fiscal year 2030.
At the same time, businesses managing commercial vehicles must address collision risk while protecting the safety of drivers and other road users. Rather than relying on separate systems, Geotab brings video, vehicle data and AI together in one connected platform, giving businesses a more complete and actionable view of their fleet operations.
From recording incidents to preventing them
At the center of Geotab’s video telematics offering is the GO Focus Plus™, an AI-powered dash cam integrated with Geotab’s cloud-based fleet management platform, MyGeotab™.
In Japan, where dash cams are widely used to record and review incidents, GO Focus Plus extends the role of video from recording what happened to helping prevent incidents before they occur. AI-powered edge intelligence detects behaviors such as mobile phone use, fatigue and tailgating, while real-time in-cab voice alerts enable drivers to self-correct. Pilot data demonstrates the potential of this proactive approach, with participating fleets recording reductions of up to 90% in tailgating and 95% in mobile phone use.
Because video is connected directly with vehicle and driving data in MyGeotab, businesses can see the context surrounding higher-risk events without reviewing hours of footage or reconciling information across separate systems. This helps organizations prioritize critical events for targeted driver coaching, making video an active tool for prevention rather than simply a record of what has already occurred.
One platform, from vehicle data to AI intelligence
Geotab’s platform brings together vehicle data, video and AI through a connected set of technologies:
- GO Device: Captures high-fidelity vehicle and driving data, including location, trips, driving behavior, and engine performance.
- GO Focus Plus: Adds AI-powered video and real-time driver support, connecting what happens on the road with vehicle, and driving data.
- Geotab Ace: A generative AI assistant integrated into MyGeotab that lets users ask questions in natural language and receive data-backed answers across safety, maintenance, EVs, and trip data.
- Geotab MCP Connector: Extends access to live MyGeotab data and Geotab Ace through enterprise AI tools including ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot.
“Japan is an important market for Geotab, and we’re proud to bring 26 years of global telematics experience to customers here,” said Jordan Guter, Vice President, East Asia, Geotab. “Businesses in Japan are operating in an increasingly challenging environment — maintaining reliable services while supporting drivers, preventing collisions and managing cost and capacity pressures.
