London, 26 February 2025 - In a sector where efficiency and sustainability have become key elements, Moove Cars, one of the main operators of VTC licences in Spain, has adopted the advanced telematics technology of Geotab, a world leader in connected transport solutions, to optimise its fleet management. By leveraging real-time vehicle data, the company has achieved a 30.79% reduction in fuel consumption, generating over £3,000,000 in savings and significantly cutting CO₂ emissions. Telematics is quickly emerging as the most effective solutions to optimise operations for mobility companies. However, telematics is only in its first steps in urban mobility and its mass adoption in the transport sector is still in progress.
Through connected devices, companies can obtain near real-time information on vehicle performance, driving habits and route planning. This data not only reduces operating costs, but also improves road safety.
Optimising operations: Spain as an innovation hub
One of the aspects with the greatest impact was the improvement of fuel efficiency by analysing driving patterns and detecting inefficient behaviour to optimise operations and help reduce fuel consumption significantly. Such strategies are increasingly common in large fleets, where any improvement in management can have a significant economic and environmental impact.
In fact, Moove Cars, winner of the 2025 Geotab Innovation Award for Sustainability (Commercial sector, Enterprise), has been a global pioneer in the adoption of Geotab's keyless technology, a flexible and scalable solution that replaces physical vehicle keys. Thanks to this solution, users of more than 3,000 of the company's vehicles in Spain can conveniently open them from their mobile phones via an app, reducing downtime and optimising operations.
“It has been a pleasure to collaborate with Moove Cars on an innovative project that marks a turning point in fleet management in the urban mobility sector. Their vision and commitment to efficiency and sustainability has allowed us to fully exploit the potential of our telematics technology to lay the foundations for smarter and more responsible mobility” says Ivan Lequerica, Vice President EMEA at Geotab, “This case highlights the value of accurate, near real-time data to optimise operations and promote more sustainable practices in transport,” he concludes.
Towards safer mobility
Another challenge in the transport sector is the safety of drivers and passengers. The digitisation of fleets makes it possible to identify risky practices, such as hard braking or speeding, and take corrective action before incidents occur. In the case of Moove Cars, telematics has become a tool to promote more responsible driving among its employees.
In addition, predictive maintenance has been identified as one of the great advantages of this technology. Through data analysis, it is possible to anticipate breakdowns before they become a problem, avoiding unexpected downtime and reducing repair costs. In addition, predictive maintenance tools have led to an estimated annual saving of 33,000 euros for Moove Cars by preventing breakdowns and extending the useful life of vehicles.
‘The incorporation of Geotab's technology has been a fundamental step in improving the safety and operational efficiency of our fleet. Thanks to telematics, we can make decisions based on comprehensive data analysis, which has allowed us to optimise our daily management and anticipate potential problems, improving the continuity of our operations. It has also allowed us to focus on the safety of our drivers and passengers by encouraging safer driving practices and reducing risks,’ says Carlos Garcia, Corporate Director and CFO of Moove Cars.
The case of Moove Cars reflects a growing trend in the industry: the digitisation of fleets to improve their performance and sustainability. Telematics not only allows optimising resource consumption and improving safety, but also opens the door to the integration of electric vehicles, a transition that poses new challenges in terms of autonomy and charging management.
