Benny Cuestas, an Applications Support Engineer at Geotab, fosters connection and empowerment by effortlessly bridging divides with his compassionate approach. His impact resonates beyond his daily workflow, enriching the lives of both his colleagues and, and, through a long-standing commitment to advocacy and education, the broader Atlanta community.

A Journey to Connection

Benny’s journey to Geotab was a deliberate search for a company culture that truly resonated with him. He ultimately found his place within the SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) team at Geotab in March 2025. This personal journey deeply ingrained in him an appreciation for collaborative spaces and the power of shared knowledge.

On a typical day, Benny is crucial to Geotab's seamless operation, ensuring clients receive effective service and infrastructure remains robust. He plays a pivotal role in streamlining processes for engineers, enabling them to implement changes efficiently while maintaining system integrity.

The Power of "Aha!": Education Beyond Boundaries

Benny’s drive to serve the community is guided by a simple principle his mother instilled in him: "if you see someone struggling, if you can help them, do it." This philosophy has been a cornerstone of his actions for years.

Outside of his Geotab responsibilities, Benny’s true passion ignites as a dedicated one-on-one tech tutor, particularly specializing in supporting individuals on the autism spectrum. For Benny, teaching is "one of the great equalizers." His fundamental belief in building trust as a prerequisite for learning stems from his early days as a swim instructor, where he patiently taught anyone eager to learn.

Benny lives for transformative "aha!" moments of understanding, that empowers those he tutors to believe that they are capable of what they put their minds to. He draws inspiration from Arthur C. Clarke's third law: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." For Benny, the goal is to reverse-engineer that magic, making technology universally accessible. He asks for laptop donations and spare parts from businesses, having successfully collected 1000+ devices for educational sessions in underserved communities where every lesson is catered to individual needs.

Cultivating Wisdom and Empathy

The integration of his passion for community advocacy and teaching and his professional life at Geotab enables Benny to actively find ways of bridging diverse thinking on teams, and improve onboarding processes.

Tracey Felder, a fellow Atlanta office colleague serves as an inspiration to Benny. He holds deep respect for Geotab’s compassionate policies and empathy embedded within the company culture. As an early team member in the Atlanta office Benny truly cherishes the genuine friendships he has forged and the supportive community he has cultivated.

Any four-leaf clovers Benny finds serve as a personal reminder to "create your own luck, share the gift that the luck gives you and pay it forward." Benny’s dedication to his role at Geotab and the broader community ensures wisdom is not only gained but generously shared.
