For some, a career path is a straight line. For Hannah, it's a map created by following her passions, taking calculated risks, and embracing serendipity. As a leader at Geotab, she's a testament to how a passion can converge with a data-driven career, proving that high performance is about the work you do and the purpose that fuels it.
Hannah's career path is a journey of embracing unexpected opportunities. A customer success role at Fleetcarma, though not an ideal fit, led to her becoming the company's first-ever data scientist, where she developed expertise in EV Suitability Assessments (EVSA) and electrical grid impact.
When she joined Geotab in 2018, Hannah led and developed the sustainability data science team. In 2023, her shift into maintenance solutions initially seemed like a detour from her climate goals. However, she found a new passion for leveraging the vast amount of fault and measurement data to simplify and generate impactful insights, proving that purpose can be found in surprising places.
Data-Driven Leadership
At Geotab, Hannah's career has been defined by impact. She first led the EV data analysis sub-team, where her success with sustainability features like EVSA and battery degradation caught the attention of leaders. This led to her next challenge: leading the data science team for the maintenance pillar.
Under her leadership, the team developed powerful downtime detection and fault severity features. Now, as a Data Science Manager, she's expanded her portfolio to include Product Analytics, a move that allows her to connect her technical expertise directly to business strategy and customer value.
Finding Balance in the Outdoors
Hannah's professional journey is mirrored by her deep connection to the outdoors, a passion cultivated through a childhood of family camping and cottage adventures. She’s a strong believer in "tourism in our own backyard," a philosophy that celebrates and invests in local nature with a minimal environmental footprint.
This connection isn't only a hobby—it's the wellspring of her drive. "Nothing fills my cup like spending time on the water," she says. This appreciation for nature, symbolized by her getting married on the deck of her cottage, directly fuels her professional purpose to fight climate change.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Reflecting on her journey, Hannah speaks to the high school girl she once was, a girl who loved math but couldn't imagine where it could take her. Today, she knows that a younger version of herself, and countless others, are watching.
"At Geotab, I don't worry about hiding my personality," she says. "If I could have had a glimpse into the future in high school—and seen the places I could go—the decision that had given me so many sleepless nights would have been an easy one."
Hannah’s story is a powerful reminder for the next generation of high-performance talent, especially women in STEM: embrace the detours, recognize the value in every new challenge, and let your core passions guide you. Every turn in her path, every new role, brought her closer to a place where she could truly make an impact.
