New Map enhancements

We’re excited to share the latest improvements to the Map! We’ve made a number of enhancements that will make managing and finding your assets an updated, seamless experience.

What’s changing?

We’ve introduced several important changes, including scoped search, improved filtering, reimagined layout, enhanced fleet visibility, and improved management with layers.

  • Scoped search: You can now limit your search results to specific assets, drivers, zones and more.
  • Improved filtering: Finding and adding filters has been simplified using the filter panel, and filters you’ve applied are highlighted on the page for ease of access.
  • New layout: The Add Zone and Add Route buttons have been relocated to the side of the map under the Zoom options to streamline your view of the map.
  • Enhanced fleet visibility: When filtering, each asset will now display its corresponding group color, allowing you to instantly visualize your fleet’s organization and identify asset groupings.
  • Layers view management: Customize your map using the new layer controls. You can toggle map elements such as assets, zones, and routes on or off, allowing you to customize your map view to focus on what’s important to you.

We’ve also made some ease of use improvements based on the valuable feedback you’ve provided for us such as reducing erratic behavior and smoothing issues when using zoom on the map. Location sharing has also been updated to allow links to be shared for a custom duration and make specifying a destination optional.

Mobile updates

The mobile Map experience has also been enhanced, with significant visual improvements to make your experience navigating the map easier than ever.

Availability

The new Map experience will become the default experience for all users gradually through July

IOX-Keybox: A new device option for Keyless shared mobility

Geotab’s Keyless Shared Mobility solution now includes the IOX-Keybox, offering a faster and easier installation process for shared fleet customers. This new device provides flexible access options and ensures key reusability, reducing vehicle downtime and eliminating key damage.

Enhanced key management

The IOX-Keybox simplifies installation by allowing keys to be placed directly into the hardware, eliminating the need for soldering integration. Unlike the IOX-Keyless, this design ensures the physical key remains undamaged and can be accessed by the driver when needed. This means no more shipping keys for assembly, which can add significant downtime for productive vehicle assets.

Improved driver access

With the IOX-Keybox, drivers can retrieve the physical key from the locked unit for bladed key starts or for general convenience during their usage period. The key is securely stored within the unit between drivers.

The process for key access is straightforward:

  • Unlock at start of usage: The unit unlocks for the driver to retrieve the key.
  • Lock: Sensors will detect if the key has been returned.
    • Key returned: The unit drawer locks.
    • Key not returned: The lock request will fail.

Availability

The IOX-Keybox launched in May and is now available for users in North America and Europe.

New snapshots for video events

We're rolling out a new video snapshot capability for rules that support video events. This feature offers a cost-effective way to monitor your fleet by capturing static images of exception events instead of full video clips. It's particularly beneficial for managing data caps and operating in low-bandwidth environments, as it significantly reduces data consumption.

Why this matters

Currently, our primary safety solution for camera solutions is video only. However, in specific markets and use cases, customers need single snapshots to conserve data and optimize network usage. This enhancement broadens our capabilities to provide both video and photo data within MyGeotab, empowering our partners to remain competitive across different regions and verticals.

Who is impacted?

This feature is intended for customers with Order Now cameras.

Where can I find it?

After the feature rollout, when you configure Rules that support video events, you will have the option to capture a static image or snapshot of an Exception event.

Availability

This feature will be available for users in a two week rollout starting June 16.

MyPreview is moving to MyGeotab

We’re making some changes to our MyGeotab platform by migrating all databases from preview.geotab.com to the my.geotab.com federation. This move aims to simplify access, improve efficiency, and enhance the user experience for everyone.

Why the Change?

Managing two separate federations (Preview and My) created complexity and inefficiency and led to confusion for users. By consolidating everything under one my.geotab.com federation, Geotab can streamline release management and eliminate the need to manage each federation separately. This means a more cohesive and user-friendly environment for all users.

What does this mean for you?

  • Simplified Access: You'll no longer need a separate preview.geotab.com site; all testing will occur directly within your my.geotab.com database.
  • Easier Testing: You can test new features seamlessly with your own data.
  • Demo Databases: You can continue to create demo databases on my.geotab.com. Existing preview.geotab.com demo databases will remain until their expiration date. New demo databases will only be created in my.geotab.com.
  • Integrations: If you have any integrations pointing to preview.geotab.com, you'll need to update them to use my.geotab.com.
  • Beta Features: These will remain separate and can still be toggled individually within any MyGeotab database.

What you can expect

All users with access to a preview.geotab.com database will be seamlessly migrated to my.geotab.com. There will be no data loss, and EU data will remain on EU servers. Billing details regarding data sharing should not be impacted by this migration.

While your URL may still appear as preview.geotab.com after the migration, it is highly recommended that you change your bookmark to my.geotab.com.

✱ NOTE: It's recommended to avoid including numbers in your database URLs (e.g., my23.geotab.com/yourdatabase), as this may lead to slow loading times.

Availability

Work for this migration will begin as early as June 26th, and take a few weeks to fully implement.

Keyless Lite: Now available in new languages

The Keyless Lite feature is now available in five new languagesSpanish (Spain)French (France)ItalianGerman, and Dutch!

Why the change?

Previously, Keyless Lite was only available in English. Drivers using Geotab Drive in their local language were unable to use localized versions of the Keyless Lite user interface.

We’ve localized this feature to provide a seamless experience for drivers using our mobile application in these five languages.

Availability

These new languages will be available to all users of Keyless Lite using localized versions of Geotab Drive in July.

New improvements for Geotab Ace

We're rolling out key updates to Ace, designed to provide more precise, secure, and comprehensive insights for all users.

What's new?

  • Time zone accuracy: Ace now ensures that all time-related responses are accurately presented in the device's or driver's local time zone. This enhancement improves clarity and reduces confusion, especially for fleets operating across different geographic locations.
  • Respecting data access levels: Ace's responses are now filtered based on your user data access level. This means users with limited or group-specific permissions can interact effectively with the tool while maintaining data security.
  • Updated role requirements: We have removed the need for admin-level clearance for Ace, allowing it to be assigned to other roles with specific permissions enabled. This improves flexibility in role assignment while maintaining proper access control and functionality.
  • Expanded driver-related queries: Ace now supports a wide range of driver-related queries, offering detailed insights to improve driver performance, ensure compliance, and optimize fleet operations. You can now track:
    • Driver assignments and activity
    • Safety comparisons, including speeding, seatbelt usage, and harsh driving events
    • Fuel economy analysis
    • Unassigned driving
    • Vehicle fault conditions
    • Cross-state trips
    • After-hours operations
    • Zone visits
  • Debugged chat history: We’ve addressed bugs that previously disrupted Ace's ability to reference past interactions, ensuring a smoother conversation flow and improving overall performance in responding to your queries.

These improvements are automatically available in Ace for all MyGeotab users.

New Faults Beta launch

We're launching an updated Faults experience in MyGeotab in Beta! The new Faults (Beta) feature provides a more comprehensive and actionable view of vehicle and device diagnostics, and is designed to help fleets proactively manage maintenance, troubleshoot device-related issues, and minimize total cost of ownership.

What’s changing?

We’ve added a fault severity column on the Faults page for OBD2 light-duty vehicles based on the risk of breakdown model. The fault severity also includes recommended actions based on the severity level, and the effect on the component involved for a subset of fault codes.

updated faults section in MyGeotab with detailed actionable insights

In partnership with Noregon, we can now additionally provide contextual severity levels to each of your active faults for J1939 vehicles (heavy-duty and some medium- duty), so that you have a stronger understanding of which faults require more immediate action.

Where can I find it?

The new Faults experience can be enabled from a Banner at the top of the existing Faults page.

Availability

The new Faults (Beta) page is available for all users. The Fault Severities with Noregon feature is currently only available for customers in the US and Canada.

Clean Truck Check program enhancements for smoother compliance

We’re rolling out several updates to our Clean Truck Check program that are aimed at improving user experience and streamlining processes to help our users stay compliant and avoid costly fines.

What’s changed?

The Clean Truck Check program has been updated with the following improvements:

  • On-demand report downloads: Real-time CTC reports of active assets can now be downloaded directly from the platform.
  • Simplified scan settings and bulk uploads: Scan frequency options have been streamlined to every seven days and manual scans to focus on the most effective settings. The bulk asset upload template also now supports manual scan configuration.
  • New report status for submission window clarity: To enhance understanding of Clean Truck Check (CTC) scan submissions in MyGeotab, a new Pending Report Submission Window status now appears for assets outside their designated CARB reporting period, providing immediate feedback on an asset’s current state.
  • On-demand submissions for great compliance control: An enhanced Scan at next ignition feature enables manual submission of CTC scans at any time regardless of asset compliance windows, giving you a direct and convenient way to help assets become compliant after a missed deadline.
  • New harness detection to help reduce compliance risk: The system now verifies harness compatibility for new enrollments, and halts enrollment if a non-compliant harness is detected. For existing assets, the feature helps identify non-compliant harnesses, giving you the information you need to address issues and make informed decisions.
  • Asset enrollment cancellation process resolved: An issue involving an unresponsive button that prevented users from cancelling asset enrollment has been resolved.

What you can expect

These enhancements are rolling out to customers in the coming weeks. Customers who previously used the 14, 21, and 28-day scan frequencies will need to adjust their settings.

This feature’s new capabilities may also flag previously unchallenged assets due to non-compliant harnesses. Users should refer to the CARB User Guide for more information on certified harnesses.
