Plastic Express: Enhancing fleet safety with a data-driven solution

Discover how Plastic Express was able to use Geotab to improve driver safety and integrate telematics into their daily operations. Since its start in 1970, Plastic Express has grown into the largest veteran-owned logistics company in the U.S. They operate over 4.2 million square feet of warehouses and 30 bulk truck terminals.

Dave Edgarton, AVP of Environmental Health and Safety at Plastic Express, says they were on the lookout for advanced technology to support their driver safety program, including a camera partner that could work with their driver operations. Gridline, a trusted Geotab reseller, was able to help Edgarton and his team implement Geotab telematics for information-rich analytics and a seamless systems integration. The team at Plastic Express also decided to add cameras to their vehicles from Geotab Marketplace Partner Netradyne for driver and road-facing cameras to improve driver safety and performance.

Geotab provided instant access to vital information, such as driver information like hours of service and DVIR completion, dispatching updates and real-time driver communication. This allowed terminal managers to swiftly address issues, enhancing overall efficiency. Initially met with hesitance, the integration of driver and road-facing cameras soon proved essential for exonerating drivers and boosting safety. The blend of Geotab and Netradyne’s AI-driven green-zone score offered critical insights on following distance, driver drowsiness, and distracted driving. As a result, Plastic Express has seen a 13% decrease in severe alerts and improvements in speeding instances, stoplight violations, and stop sign infractions.

Plastic Express’ adoption of Geotab’s technology has markedly improved safety metrics and operational efficiency. Find out more about Geotab’s trucking fleet solutions here.
