Geotab and Garmin launch high-performance HOS technology

Fleet managers can monitor on-road activities in addition to enforcing HOS compliance

April 19, 2013 – Geotab, one of the world’s fastest growing telematics firms with over 300,000 units deployed and supporting 20% of the largest 50 fleets in North America, has teamed up with Garmin to offer a high-performance hours-of-service (HOS) solution to businesses that have interstate fleet operations. The Geotab Garmin solution is compliant to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) part 395.15, automatic on-board recording devices.

Leveraging Geotab’s customized reporting capabilities, highly flexible exception and rules engine, and Interactive driver coaching, with Geotab Garmin HOS fleet managers can monitor on-road activities in addition to enforcing HOS compliancy.

Through Geotab’s IOX expansion technology that connects to the GO6 GPS vehicle tracking device, Garmin dezl 560LMT or 760LMT can be added for driver dispatching and HOS compliance. Geotab has combined the power of MyGeotab, its online fleet tracking software, with Garmin dezl HOS logging to help automate processes for business owners. Drivers log their HOS and status changes on the dezl device, which tracks driver activities and provides any potential violation alerts. All HOS data from these devices is available through the MyGeotab interface in real-time.

“With customized truck routing, the new dezl in-cab devices provide a great interface for heavy duty trucks,” said Neil Cawse, CEO of Geotab. “Combining the Garmin devices and HOS application with MyGeotab has given us the ability to offer a solution that is easy to deploy, learn, and meet today’s HOS compliance needs”.

“Garmin dezl devices are designed to meet the specific needs of truckers, helping to make their job easier all while saving time, fuel, and money,” said Chad Sallman, Business Development Manager for commercial solutions at Garmin. “We’re please to now combine these capabilities with Geotab’s powerful telematics framework to provide a complete fleet management solution.”
