CARSON CITY, NV – June 24, 2025 – The State of Nevada is taking a significant leap forward in efficiency and fiscal responsibility with the installation of Geotab telematics devices in all state-operated vehicles. This strategic initiative, fully funded by the Governor’s Office of Energy (GOE), will ensure compliance with the crucial requirements of Senate Bill (SB) 505 while providing state agency fleets with exceptional data-driven insights to optimize operations.
Enacted to help boost Nevada's energy resilience and cut fuel dependence, SB 505 requires comprehensive tracking and reporting of energy use and emissions from state vehicle fleets. Geotab's telematics solution is ideal for meeting these requirements by providing monthly fuel and energy usage reports for every vehicle, resulting in a granular view of energy utilization across the entire state fleet.
After eight months of data processing, Geotab will deliver a comprehensive Fleet Asset Utilization report identifying opportunities for operational improvements and potential transitions to better ROI alternatives. This encompasses precise insights into fuel consumption for each state vehicle, and where feasible, a dedicated CO2 report to track and quantify carbon emissions supporting the state’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
“Geotab gives us the visibility we need to track how fuel and energy are being used across the state fleet,” said Dwayne McClinton, Director of the Nevada Governor's Office of Energy. “This is essential to meeting the goals of SB 505. The data supports our work to reduce fuel dependency, improve resiliency, and help agencies operate more efficiently, without adding to their costs.”
The funding for this initiative enables all Nevada state agencies to benefit from Geotab telematics without impacting their individual budgets. Agencies can now make data-driven decisions to enhance fleet efficiency, reduce maintenance costs, and improve overall operational effectiveness with this unprecedented support.
As part of the broader initiative, the GOE has also extended the reach of Altitude by Geotab to all state agencies. This program provides advanced analytics to state agencies for traffic management, infrastructure planning, and public safety.
"Nevada is demonstrating true leadership by leveraging strategic funding to achieve ambitious efficiency and cost management goals," said Neil Garrett, Associate Vice President, Public Sector Business Development at Geotab. "The comprehensive data provided by Geotab ensures full compliance with SB 505 and unlocks a wealth of opportunities for state agencies to optimize the operation of their fleets. This is a best-in-class model for how states can use innovative technology and smart funding to create multiple benefits for their citizens and infrastructure."
Geotab has solidified its role as a trusted telematics partner for government agencies, underscored by the reaffirmation of the world’s largest telematics contract from the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). Geotab’s security standards are independently verified by FedRAMP and ISO 27001 certifications, and most recently, the company’s cryptographic module achieved FIPS 140-3 validation from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (CCCS), further affirming its leadership in secure, compliant solutions for public sector and regulated industries.
