Thalwil, Switzerland and Ontario, Canada – April 5, 2011 – Geotab, a complete platform provider of comprehensive telematics solutions, announces the immediate availability of its ultra-small, next-generation vehicle tracking solution based on u-blox’ embedded NEO GPS and LEON GSM modules. The GO5 is a compact yet multi-tasking telematics platform that works straight out of the box and requires virtually no installation time. It continuously monitors, records and reports speed, mileage, harsh braking, acceleration, and vehicle data including engine health diagnostics based on user-defined specifications. For fleet managers who are focused on reducing insured or self-insured claims costs, the GO5 includes an audible alert feature that advises drivers in real time of risky driving habits.

“Our GO5 device is a complete, standalone solution for vehicle tracking and accident reconstruction with very sophisticated Over-the-Air (OTA) functionality,” said Clive Cawse, Geotab’s Vice President of Operations. “Geotab has implemented u-blox’ AssistNow assisted GPS service, a method to prime the u-blox NEO GPS module with satellite orbit data via the LEON GSM module. This enables quick GPS acquisition even when parked indoors or in cities. Features include remote configuration of accelerometer sensitivity, and for accident reconstruction purposes, automatic transmission of detailed high resolution data is initiated when excessive G force is recorded.”

“Based on features, size, and ease-of-use, the GO5 is one of the most advanced vehicle tracking solutions on the market”, said Huub Robroek, u-blox Account Manager, “It is the result of the dedication and collaboration of two leading companies in embedded positioning solutions. We are very pleased with the results, and we are sure end-customers will be too.”

The GO5 unit works seamlessly with Geotab’s Checkmate™ 5.5 server-based and MyGeotab™ 5.5 free web-based fleet management software to give fleet managers complete operational overview. Additional features include a patented algorithm to record trip details while maintaining a high resolution data log for accident reconstruction purposes. It also supports firmware upgrade over-the-air for customer specific requirements or applications.
