Spotlight on European Geotabbers

Learn more about our European Geotabbers including what they do and how they work.

Geotab is an international company with offices and employees spanning the globe. To highlight the important work of some of our Geotabbers in Europe, we decided to sit down and chat with them about their roles, how they embody Geotab’s core values and the exciting projects they are currently working on.

Here’s a spotlight on several team members and the innovative projects they’re currently working on.

What do you value at Geotab that you never had in any other company?

Geotab has a family-first mentality and I’ve never experienced this level of flexibility elsewhere. This is my first-ever remote position and it has given me time to combine both family and work.

How would you describe the working environment at Geotab?

When you first join, everyone tells you “welcome to the family” and at first I thought it was a bit exaggerated. It is work after all — but they really mean it. As a Geotabber you have a feeling of belonging to something special. I have visited four offices so far and everyone is extremely friendly, interested in chatting and in getting to know who you are and what you do.

My direct manager is based in Aachen, whereas my dotted line manager is based in Madrid, so I get to experience both the Nordics Central Eastern Europe (NCEE) local environment and the wider European one. The European Training Team operates in a way that lets you train and speak to partners all over Europe.

What is your favorite core value?

Work hard your way. For me, it means working from home and being able to take care of my family while still doing something rewarding for myself. There is a strong trust among the team members, which is fundamental for a remote team and makes collaboration so much easier.

What is a cross-functional project you are particularly proud of?

At the end of last year, we noticed that Partners are lacking the time to keep up with our product updates. Geotab evolves at a fast pace, so it is essential to be up to date and know the latest features and functionalities — or at least the most important ones — if you want to fully leverage our solutions. For this reason, my team and I created two new webinar series, GeoTips and GeoNews, in order to bring these updates to our Partners in a short and easy-to-digest way. I own this initiative and present the sessions. I very much enjoy organizing them with the help of the Marketing, Product and Solution Engineering teams.

Role: Customer Experience Specialist

Location: Madrid, Spain

What do you value at Geotab that you never had in any other company?

I like collaborating at Geotab because we are aware of the importance of the true value of people and their intellectual capital. You can have the best technical equipment, beautiful offices and a high salary, but without human value, all this becomes irrelevant. Geotab puts that value into its employees making it a great place to work.

How would you describe the working environment at Geotab?

Managers are not only managers, they are leaders who inspire with their way to do their job. This example begins with the CEO. It is easy to give orders, anyone can do it, but inspiration needs a special talent that you develop doing what you love. At Geotab I found a company in which everyone loves what they do, and you can see it!

What is your favorite core value?

Do the right thing. If all your actions are motivated from this value — not only at work but also in your private life — you will enjoy a full life being aware that you are positively influencing your environment and others.

What is a cross-functional project you are particularly proud of?

I am proud of each one of the projects in which I have participated, mainly because I realize how diverse teams can collaborate on the same goal. Here there is no room for egos; we all learn from each other. It is great to see how colleagues are willing to share their knowledge with you and help you.

Role: Project Manager

Location: Madrid, Spain

What do you value at Geotab that you never had in any other company?

I mostly value the sense of freedom to propose new ideas, to promote changes and the chance to openly chat with literally anyone — even the CEO!

How would you describe the working environment at Geotab?

In Geotab you feel you can work your way and all Geotabbers are totally open to collaborate and support when you need it. Geotab values are present in all Geotabbers, and that makes the difference.

What is your favorite core value?

Do the right thing. This value helps you build trust with your colleagues and with our partners, helping to create a reliable environment and thriving business.

What is a cross-functional project you are particularly proud of?

One of my favorite projects was to lead the internal merger between several departments on the latest Geotab company acquisition. This project was at the same time complex and inspiring, as one of the main assets to think about was people and how they were dealing with such a change. It helped me to better understand how this company is built and appreciate it even more.

Jorge Salvador Caffarena

Jorge Salvador Caffarena

Role: Senior Software Developer Team Lead

Location: Málaga, Spain

How would you describe the working environment at Geotab?

Being part of the European Engineering Software team at Geotab is truly a pleasure. It is a constant learning experience as I have to interact with many other teams from other competencies — and countries! It is a challenge as we are always looking for excellence. Lastly, but quite important, it is fun and engaging as leaders have and promote a very healthy work environment.

What is a cross-functional project you are particularly proud of?

Our team maintains the Geotab Tachograph and Cold Chain solutions, currently running as MyGeotab Add-Ins built using Java, GWT and MySQL technologies. We are also working on bringing those functionalities as fully integrated MyGeotab features, and with that we will be working using the same technology stacks as other MyGeotab software teams like C# (dotNet framework), TypeScript and postgreSQL. Here are some snapshots of the work we have been doing!

Ricardo Matos

Headshot of Ricardo Matos

Role: Marketing Manager, Nordics, Central and Eastern Europe

Location: Aachen, Germany

What do you value at Geotab that you never had in any other company?

I started working at Geotab shortly before COVID-19 hit Europe and the rest of the world and the first lockdown's were put into force. As no one knew how the pandemic was about to turn out, it was very comforting when Geotab’s CEO, Neil Cawse, said that he will not let people go because of the pandemic, especially for people like me, who were still in their probation time. Taking this economic risk really showed me that Geotab cares for all employees in these difficult times.

How would you describe the working environment at Geotab?

I would describe it as a fast paced environment, where everyone knows where the goal is, but leaders and the board trust Geotabbers to find the right path to reach it. This trust is a dynamo for employee motivation.

What is your favorite core value?

Do the right thing. This is also a motto which is dear to my heart. Do what is right and treat others like you want to be treated. By living this value, we can ensure a respectful and ethical treatment between Geotabbers, partners and customers.

What is a cross-functional project you are particularly proud of?

What I've enjoyed the most was to find the right people to grow the European marketing team. With the help of the HR team, the European marketing team and my local team, we were able to find people with the right skills and characters that fit perfectly into the company.

Abhinav Vasu

Location: London, United Kingdom

How would you describe the working environment at Geotab?

Geotab enables and empowers engineers to nurture and accelerate entrepreneurial characteristics through working with multiple teams, external and internal, understanding requirements, suggesting enhancements and actioning these through deep and strong collaboration and teamwork.

What is a cross-functional project you are particularly proud of?

A member of the Solutions Engineering team liaises, coordinates and works with all aspects of the business, commercial to deep, core technical to formulate a usable, tangible solution for the end customer. Being part of a high performance team that contributes to retrieving data via reverse engineering, helping the customer formulate a return on investment (ROI) case using Geotab's reports and troubleshooting and managing a smooth deployment, all in a fast-paced environment with a highly collaborative and helpful team, is an amazing opportunity.
